The Rotary Rocket's Interior & Exterior
Interior
Sound System
The Rotary Rocket finally has a real stereo! OK, so it's no IASCA prizewinner, but it suits me just fine. When I bought my '7, it still had the stock system in it. Eww! A shitty old Clarion tuner and non-functional tape deck (not that Clarion isn't a good marque) with a pair of decaying 6.5" speakers in the rear. There was one 4" speaker still in the front, but it was not connected. Go figure.

The system now consists of:
- Kenwood KRC-860 cassette head unit
- Kenwood KDC-C504 10-disc changer
- Alpine 4" coaxials in front
- Infinity 6.5" Kappa II's in back
- JBL 10" bass tube
- Linear Power #1752 amp driving the JBL (bridged, 175W x 1)
Custom Instrumentation
After removing the stock radio & cassete player, I was left with more room in the dash than could be filled by a DIN-size head unit alone. I opted to take up the dead space with three small (2-1/8") gauges.

I chose from the AutoMeter Z-series (or something similar), and installed a vacuum gauge (now a vacuum/boost gauge in anticipation of my new engine), an oil pressure gauge and a fuel pressure gauge. The oil pressure gauge was originally the mechanical type (utilized an 1/8" nylon tube running from the engine to the gauge), but the NPT crushed-ferrule fittings proved problematic, and I switched to an electrical gauge after having 75% of my engine's oil capacity pumped into the passenger footwell one night. That was a pisser. RotaryRckt will never again route any engine fluids into the cabin of his passenger vehicles.
One of these days I'll provide details of the installation procedure for both the head unit and the gauges. Until then, those dying to know will either have to wait, or ask nicely.
Exterior
Currently, the Rotary Rocket's near-flawless, original-paint exterior is bone stock (with the exception of the treatment Kool & the Gang gave my rear bumper late one spring night in scenic San Pedro... that's another rant entirely, though). One of these days it'd be nice to add a functional air dam, a pair of high-intensity driving lights and maybe even a modest spoiler. Any suggestions?
