Greetings RX-7 Net!
I hope you're all doing well. FYI, I still spend some time on my Porsche list defending RX-7's to those who Japanese car bashers who just don't have a clue!
Anyway, a lot has happened in the last year. The DE (Driver Education) events I ran under the auspices of the MIT Alumni Club (which many of you have attended) have spawned an entity called TracQuest, which does essentially the same thing, but more frequently. TracQuest will be running 6 events this year, and I thought I'd provide you with some info on the first three.
The next event is at the big track at Willow Springs (in Southern California) on Monday, March 6. Willow Springs is an awesome track, and isn't called "The Fastest Road in the West" for nothing. Cornering speed through Turn 8 in a well driven stock 3rd gen on R compound tires approaches 130 mph!
After that, there are two back to back events at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park in Pahrump, NV (55 miles NW of Las Vegas) on Sunday, April 30 and Monday, May 1. The Monday event is being conducted specifically for Porsche Boxsters attending the national Boxster meeting in Vegas that weekend called TBHL III - "The Boxsters Have Landed." However, the Monday event is open to everyone - I'll just be holding a certain number of spots for TBHL attendees up until April 1. The Sunday event is completely open to everyone, including, of course, TBHL attendees. For those wanting to run both days, there is a substantially discounted entry fee (almost 20%).
Following Spring Mountain, the next event at Thunderhill (90 miles north of Sacramento) on Sunday, July 2. I've been under pressure from my northern friends for years to do an event up north and I finally gave in. Thunderhill is a great track - 2.9 miles, 15 turns, technical, a little bit of everything.
Event write-ups and entry forms for these events, as well as detailed information about how they're run, and driving on a track generally, can be found on TracQuest's (new) web site at http://www.tracquest.net/. I hope some of you can make it to one or more of these events. RX-7's used to be the most highly represented marque at my events, but participation has fallen off over the last few years, since I sold my 3rd gen. It would be great to see some of you again! If any of you have any questions, feel free to email me at any of the addresses below.
