Thoughts On Installing
Third Gen. Seats In A First Gen.

   by Richard Sheveland

I installed a set of black leather seats from a '95 into my '82. While I have done the conversion of 2nd gen seat into a 1st gen with minimal effort (basically just take the stock rails from the 1st gen and put them on a 2nd gen seat and it bolts right in), on the 3rd gen seat the spacing of the rails is a few inches too narrow once the 1st gen rails are bolted on. I had to fabricate an adapter bracket that would spread the rails out so that they would fit into the stock position of the 1st gen's floor board mounts.

Getting everything to line up perfectly while maintaining correct seat height is tricky. The 3rd gen seat is somewhat smaller than the 1st Gen seat, so there is plenty of room to fit them. They are installed and have full movement foward and backward. They look great and are far superior to the 1st or 2nd Gen seat. I think they are much lighter as well.
